Civil Disobedience in a Democratic Society
Civil disobedience refers to a situation where the people revolt against the government’s laws, orders, or leadership in general, but peacefully. For instance, it is common for citizens to hold peaceful demonstrations in a bid to air their views on a particular issue implemented by the government. Moreover, it is important to note that a democratic society chooses its leaders or representatives through democracy, thus implying that they must observe freedom of speech, fair trial, and equal rights. Civil disobedience is justifiable in a democratic society since everyone has the right to freedom of speech, and the government must observe equal rights.
The main reason why it is ethical for the people to engage in the act of civil disobedience in a democratic society is freedom of speech. For instance, people have a right to complain in a situation where they do not receive the right services from their representative.
