Colonialism in Palestine
Palestine is a land where the Arab people have lived over a thousand of years, but they are not the indigenous people of Palestine (Zureik 15). These people speak Arabic, and they are Muslims, but the minority are Christians. Zionism is a group of European colonialism that started a long time ago before the introduction of Holocaust in Europe. The primary objective of Zionism is to introduce a Jewish state to the indigenous people of Palestine (Laqueur 15). The Zionism colonialism is the most restricted in that it might either be terminated or given time to continue for the good of the native people. Therefore, colonialism must be allowed to continue and develop under the condition that it protects the local people (Jones 65). The Zionism changed nothing in the native people other than the language of communication.
Palestine wanted to stay in peace with his neighbours who were the Arabs (Laqueur 17). During that time, it was easy and possible for the colonial rulers to eliminate the native population. It was the role of Zionist to use peace and security as a tool to end the resistance from the Palestine native people (Jones 72). During the year 1947, the Zionist had acquired around 6.6% of the total land in Palestine, and around 935,000 people were moved out of their land. This paper will discuss the positive and negative impacts of colonialism in Palestine establishment by both the British and the Zionist.
The British rule in Palestine started in the year 1917 and ended in the year1948. The British influence in these thirty years was very deep and of great impact to the people of Palestine (Zureik 20). Palestine was made a political unit by the British and Jerusalem was made a capital city of Palestine. In the part of the positive impact, the British built roads built schools and institutions and promoted security to the people of Palestine. The ruling directions were controlled from Britain through the League of Nations (Sammy 79). This mandatory was meant to prepare and turn the country into a home the Jewish people without the implementation of power or civil rights to the indigenous people of the land.
