The Concept of Checks and Balances in Early America
The people of early America settled the land because they wanted to establish this region as one of freedom. They were convinced that the English crown had far too much power, which had led to the oppression and even persecution, in some cases, of English citizens. Taking in the lessons that had been learned from the English monarchy as well as the Articles of Confederation, the foundering fathers created a Constituion that invoked a new idea. The concept behind America's structure of government rested on the idea of having seperate branches with checks and balances. Although there have certainly been questions and problems that arose from this concept throughout history, America's idea of checks and balances in the government has worked efficiently for centuries now, perhaps because the underlying principle behind this concept is one of the most important principles of the American identity, and that is equality.
When America was first being settled, the form of government in England was a monarchy, and the country itself had a great deal of religious turmoil.
