Decolonization is an Unfinished Process
Introduction
Decolonization is the cultural nature of indigenous peoples, whose purpose is to achieve the right and ability to exercise self-will over their sovereignty, land, and cultural, political and financial systems and intellectual and financial freedom. Colonialism is a long-standing international challenge for settlers to continue to occupy land, dominate the social, political and economic systems, and control most indigenous peoples and their resources. It is an international challenge in many countries in the world. This global colonial challenge affects all communities. Indigenous groups worldwide have moved to their lands, both as a result of the borders of colonial challenges and to prevent the defense of constantly threatened lands with the help of troops seeking access to their inherent resources. This paper examines the concept of decolonization as a continuous process of assessing colonialism, which is also present in many components of this world.
Ongoing Colonialism
A wave of decolonization has always struck the idea of continued colonialism. But few seem to understand that colonialism exists in many parts of the world. By 2012, 16 territories were still under colonial control and were designated as Non-Self Governing Territories (NSGTs) with the support of the United Nations (Mbengue 2012). These are areas where the population no longer has full autonomy in running their affairs. The 16 territories scattered throughout the globe have nearly 2 million people within their jurisdictions. They remain under the security of former colonial powers, now called administrative power, including the United Country, the United States and France. Most nights are represented by small dots on the world map, but in reality, they can be exceptional players on the world stage. Some exhibit the highest economic abilities in the world, along with the world's top 10 countries in terms of GDP. They include the Cayman Islands and Bermuda. Others are important fortresses of local security, e.g., Guam. Some have found themselves in diplomatic disputes due to their geographic locations, e.g., Gibraltar and Falkland / Malvinas.
A general assembly of the United Nations established the UN decolonization committee to handle decolonization matters. Its mission is to check the implementation of the Declaration of Independence for colonies and nations. Since the inception of the United Nations in 1945, the world has undergone a series of political reforms, with the diversity of UN member states expanding from genuine 51 to 193. It further led to the elimination of the centuries-old vintage governance. And this is common in modern society, despite improvements in the legal system, primarily based on sovereign equality between the countries and human rights.
Decolonization remains an unfinished process, as the United Nations opines (El-Ayouti 2012). In many countries in the world, the decolonization process has been ongoing. The efforts of decolonization informed the declaration of the period between 2010 and 2020 to be a decade of eliminating of the colonialism in the world.
Independence
From the time that the United Nations was established, political equality and sovereignty of nations have formed the background of decolonization process. Many nations that were being colonized have in the recent past gained autonomy thereby making major milestones in their development processes, despite the fact that decolonization process has slowed down in many areas. For instance, since the state of east Timor became independent from the state of Indonesia in the early 2002, almost no other state as gained independence and autonomy. It implies that the efforts of global bodies like the United Nations may have not been completely successful as colonialism still persists in many areas of the world.
Bottom of Form
The decolonization program recommended with the help of the United Nations is not necessarily based entirely on independence. There are three different ways in which NSGT can exercise its autonomy and gain a full level of autonomy: integration into its sovereignty, broadly belonging to its power, or other mutually agreed option for creating the needed self-rule.
The current stalemate is partly due to the refusal of the country governing the colony of heed to the options, as well as lack of public awareness of the NSGT people on their right to freely determine their political reputation in their territory. According to the United Nations, every person has an inherent human right to self-determination. As such, the UN has persistently called for the perfection of free will, not independence itself, in handling the process of decolonization.
Framework for the Fight against Colonialism
International regulation provides a powerful conceptual framework for criticizing these complex subordination mechanisms. Articles 1 and 55 of the Charter of the United Nations state that one of the basic aspirations and concepts is the improvement of a comfortable family among people, mainly based on recognizing the concept of equality and free will of the people. Other legal provisions include Chapter 11 (Declaration of Non-Autonomous Region), Chapter 12 (International Trust System), and Chapter 13 (Trust Management Committee) (Aldawood 2018). The sovereignty of Nations is further strengthened by worldwide agreements such as Cultural and Social Rights, International Agreements on Political and Civil Rights, among others. The Parties to the Convention sell their conclusions following their provisions. These legal provisions stress the need for self-determination in line with the articles on the Charter of the United Nations. Colonialism was officially banned as a global movement under the 1960 Declaration of Independence of the Colonial States and Ethnic Groups (General Assembly Resolution 1514 [XV]), establishing three valid forms of political equality.
Way Forward
Due to colonialism, the political map of this world looked similar to what it is today; the borders were drawn without consideration of regional details or reality. It deliberately denied or distorted the cultural, financial, political, and social conditions the colonial rulers lived (Teshome-Bahiru 2009). In doing so, colonial forces undermined people's real identity by giving them their controlled identity, thereby reducing their human dill, without
