Definition of Freedom from Different Point of View (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

1 question 2 pages You must use in-text citations or footnotes to show where you got the information to answer these questions from. The answers must be in a .docx file, and you will only be able to upload one file for the assignment. Remember to adhere to the instructions in the Written Assignment Guidelines. Choose one of these three questions to answer: What does “freedom” mean? What did it mean to the freedmen? What did the former slaveholders want it to mean? Give two examples of both. Whose definition ended up being enforced once Reconstruction was over? Why do you think it happened that way? What made the Civil War different from any war before it? Name three things. What effect would the war have on the future of America? Describe Reconstruction (both phases, Presidential and Radical/Congressional). What was it primarily trying to accomplish? How did it succeed? How did it fail? Give examples. Your paper should begin with an introductory paragraph that explains what you are going to be writing about and why it is important. A paragraph should have a topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a conclusion sentence. A good paragraph will be 4-6 sentences to explain everything in it fully. You will then need body paragraphs to answer the question. Each one should be 4-6 sentences and should describe one part of your answer. A good essay will have at least 2-3 body paragraphs to answer the question fully. Anytime you use information that you got from another source you need a citation. This citation can take one of two forms. The first is an in-text citation, an example of which is at the end of this sentence. (Textbook 10). An in-text citation will have the author’s last name and the page number the information was found on. You can also use a footnote, and example of which is at the end of this sentence. You will also need a works cited page or bibliography page at the end of the document that lists all of the sources used in your work. Your paper will then need to have a conclusion. This paragraph should restate your argument while outline your important points. While it does not have to be a long paragraph, it still needs to review your ideas well. Your paper should be double-spaced, Times News Roman, 12 point font, as this document is.

Definition of Freedom from Different Point of View
Question One
While the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States, it left open the question of what freedom meant to formerly enslaved citizens (Vlassopoulos 336). One of the major controversies in the Reconstruction era's past is the disagreement about the definition of freedom for freed people. In this paper, I will delve into Question One of the assignment and critically consolidating relevant research materials on the meaning of ‘freedom’. First, I will discuss the overall definition of ‘freedom’. Second, while it is quite important to comprehend ‘freedom’ from a different point of views, I will focus on what it meant to freedmen and what the former slaveholders wanted it to mean. Furthermore, I will consider two examples of both views.
