Ethnicity in U.S. according to Anthony Appiah and Richard Rodriguez.
In U.S., there is a complexity in the ideology of ethnicity. This is due to the several instances and happenings that clearly indicate higher levels of ethnicity. Besides that, race is no longer a matter of white and black but goes deeper than one can imagine. Considering the findings of both Anthony Appiah and Richard Rodriguez, they intensively explore these ideas giving reasons about them in celebrating these facts. Both Anthony Appiah and Richard Rodriguez have the following similar opinions to say about the ethnicity in U.S.
In support of the fact that the idea of ethnicity is not easy in U.S., Anthony Appiah in his essay says that there is discrimination based on ethnic backgrounds. This is more evident when he speaks of the times when he was still a student, reflecting on how his teachers used to view him as an outcast. ‘‘I had all these stereotypes through Kojak. . . I grew up reading Richard Wright [the African-American author whose writings chronicled the country’s entrenched racism], who actually visited us when I was a child in Ghana.”
