In history, the ideology of great discovery and conquering of the new settlement is misleading since the world began the so undiscovered place had locals living there and practiced certain cultural patterns (Cottin, 4). These invasions, as depicted by historians, were the sources of colonization and genocide that has happened in the world, as nations battle for supremacy to control those they invaded. Cottin continues to argue that though the colonizing nation assumed the indigenous were primitive, they already had some form of civilization an example is given the Arawak/Taino conquest by Christopher Colombus (Cottin, 3, 15). He states that the islands he ventured had locals living there, however, he used force to acquire information and subjected the locals to oppression.
