History of the Cold War
The Cold War is considered to be the most complicated conflict that defined political interactions between the Soviet Union and the United States of America. While no direct battle occurred through the decades of active tension, it led to drastic changes in both countries from a social and economic perspective. Ideally, many other global regions were affected by this conflict because the U.S. and USSR were dominant in several ways during the period. The Cold War was a manifestation of ideological difference which affected various other entities, agencies, and nations. Many events of the 20th century was shaped by incidences of the Cold War, and it laid a historical foundation that allowed citizens from both nations to appreciate their development norms.
Brief Overview of the Cold War and Affected Countries
It is claimed that the Cold War lasted for more than 45 years where the Soviet Union and the United States including their allies, were involved in a long and non-violent conflict. Both sides were technically at peace but there was immense competition to dominate proxy wars, perpetuate ideological bids for world dominance and aggressive arms race (Lucks 12). For example, the Vietnam War which involved the French, Americans and Russians reflected on ideological annotations which the superior nations wanted to promote. The Americans were anti-communist and supported South Vietnam during the war to fight against North Vietnam which strived to sustain communism norms perpetrated by the Soviet Union (Lucks 39). As a proxy war, both the U.S and the USSR wanted to establish their economic and social ideals through silent conflict.
