At that time, most of North America was inhabited by the Red-Indians (a name given to the native Americans by English explorers). People from England and other countries had started to come to North America at the end of 16th century. Being the daughter of the Powhatan chief, Pocahontas was considered a very important woman. Furthermore, she was the favorite child of her father. Her life was shaped by experiences that were beyond her control. The arrival of the British in America had a lot of impact on the life of Pocahontas. Englishmen used Pocahontas to secure deals with the Powhatan tribes CITATION nps16 \l 1033 (nps.gov).
