Synopsis
On December 25, 1876, Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born in Pakistan in the town of Karachi. He later joined politics and became a member of the Indian National Congress in the year 1906. After about seven years, Muhammad Ali Jinnah became part of the Indian Muslim. His main vision was for India to become an independent state, which came true 1947 on the August of 14th. Immediately after India became an Independent state Muhammad Ali Jinnah was sworn in as the first general governor. In 1948 September 11, Muhammad Ali Jinnah died in Pakistan in Karachi.
Early life
Muhammad Ali Jinnah was born on the second floor of an apartment known as the Wazir Mansion in Pakistan that was then part of India. He was the firstborn of all his six siblings. His father was Jinnahbhai Poonja and he was a successful merchant in Karachi and exported grain, wool, and cotton while the mother was Mithibai. The parents were members of Khoja Muslim sect, these were a group of Islam that had converted from being Hindus and were followers of Aga Khan. During the birth of Muhammad, his official name at the time was Mahomedali Jinnahbhai. He appeared lightweight and weak at the time of birth, but the mother was convinced that he would grow to be a very important person that would achieve great things.
Education
Jinnah was home schooled and in 1887 was sent to the Sind Madrasat al-Islam that was located in Karachi when he was 6 years. In school, Jinnah was not the average model student but, in fact, was unruly and restless. He preferred playing with his friends outside rather than studying. Jinnah’s father being a successful business owner insisted on Jinnah passing mathematics but to Jinnah mathematics was one of his hardest subjects. For his high school, his parents enrolled him to a Missionary school in the hopes of reforming him from his unruly behaviors such as skipping school to go horseback riding. Jinnah attended the Christian Missionary Society High School where he passed his matriculation exams at the age of 16 in the University of Bombay now known as the University of Mumbai found in Mumbai, India. During his years in School Jinnah admired his father’s colleague and the moment he was offered internship by the father’s friend in London he jumped right into it.
Marriage
Mithridate, Jinnah’s mother was upset about her son leaving and used an arranged marriage to keep her son in Pakistan. At the age of 15, Jinnah got married to a 14-year-old girl known as Emibai in 1982 on the month of February. The mother thought that the marriage would guarantee her son return, but that was not the case. Eventually, Jinnah flew out to London leaving his family behind and unfortunately, his wife and mother died during his stay in London.
Attorney
Jinnah joined Lincolns Inn in London, which was a well-known legal society whose main purpose was to prepare students for the bar. At the age of 19, Jinnah was called to the bar. He also learned about the death of the wife and the mother during this time. With all the bad news, he had received, he still completed his studies and got a degree in Law. With this degree when he moved back to Bombay, he developed a law practice as a barrister in the High Court of Bombay. He practiced law as a barrister until the mid-1940s. Some of his greatest achievements in Law include winning the Bawl murder trial that took place in 1925 and Bishan Lal case where he was in defense in 1945. The Bishan Lal was his last final case before he joined Politics.
Politics
During his trip to London and his law studies, Jinnah visited the House of Commons frequently. He was amazed by how powerful the British Government was and loved to see this for himself. The observations he made on the British Government made him interested in learning about the British Political System. William Gladstone greatly influenced Jinnah due to his capability of becoming Prime minister for four times in a row. The affairs of India in Britain were also his interest and mostly the Indian students. Jinnah and his Indian students in Britain worked so hard to guarantee that Dadabhai Naoroji the Parsi leader joined the Parliament. The support offered to Dadabhai was a success and he became the first Indian to sit and be part of the House of Commons.
When Jinnah got back in Bombay, he entered the political field as a liberal nationalist. His father was against his choice of changing careers and this caused his father to cut him off financially. His father later died in 1902, fortunately, the two had mended the fence before Jinnah’s father’s death. To Jinnah, India’s politics lacked strong representation in the British Parliament. The lack of this representation led Jinnah to join the Indian National Congress in 1906 after attending an Indian National Congress meeting two years before. In 19123Jinnah joined the All India Muslim League and later he joined the Home Rule League whose main cause was to lead India in becoming a self-Government. In this political party, Jinnah was chosen as Bombay Chief Organizer and was later elected as Bombay Branch President.
Jinnah Remarries
Amidst his political career, Jinnah met 16-year-old Ratanbai in Darjeeling during a vacation. He loved her and after she turned 18 and converted from Hindu to Muslim, they got married on April 1918. In 1919, Jinnah and Ratanbai got their fast and last daughter, Dina.
