Theophilus was a servant and a monk by profession. He used his knowledge to encourage people to use the talents given to them. He argued that a human being should work to acquire whatever they desire. He claimed God inspired him to offer people free help. To encourage individuals to use the talents given by God.
According to Theophilus, medieval arts add beauty to houses. When God chose David to be his servant, he commanded him to go and decorate His house. In addition, Solomon used gold and other precious minerals in building the house of God. He used universal craftsmen knowing that God will admire it. He argued the holy spirit inspired the artworks of the people of God.
Prologues introduce the reader to the real medieval works. Theophilus uses the prologue to relate biblical stories to medieval arts. In the first prologue, Theophilus encourages individuals to use the divine talents given by God. He argued that God created human being in the image of God. In the second prologue, he supports medieval arts basing his arguments on prominent figures in the Bible like David.
God expects His people to acknowledge his marvelous creation work by using their talents. The making of censers is one way of honoring the works of God. They serve many religious functions in places of worship. He claimed that Biblically, the Medieval arts are ordained by God.
