Sports Play An Essential Aspect in American Society

Sports have emerged as an essential factor in the growth and development of the United States of America (USA). According to the pew research center, more than 38 million people living in the USA were not born there. Sports is the most effective and efficient way to integrate immigrants into the American culture because it has contributed to social and racial integration for years (United States of America Embassy). Furthermore, Sports opportunities draw people together, enabling them to interact, learn about each other's culture, know one another, and advance people’s way of life. Sports act as a link between immigrants and host communities and may promote America's way of life. Therefore, through sports, immigrants can be integrated into the American culture, enhancing the growth and development of the country.
The typical or most American sports are football, basketball, and baseball. Historically baseball has been the national sport, but recently National Football League (NFL) is believed to have taken over ranking as the most-watched and preferred sport. Football popularity and success are because of the complete parity in the league. Basketball traces its history to 1891, the year it was first played by James Naismith, an instructor and a physical education professor (Library of Congress). Consequently, the National Basketball League (NBL) has tremendously grown as an international sport overtaking baseball. Therefore, football, baseball, and basketball are the most popular sports in the USA.
