Why People Buy Expensive Brand Things
Human beings are diversified, so they have different tastes and preferences concerning ideas, ways of living, dressing styles, and shopping preferences. Some people prefer to buy branded products for personal or public reasons, while others prefer mass-market products. There is no wrong or good choice, as all these differences make humans a beautiful race. This paper discusses why other people choose luxury branded products over mass-market products. Also, a discussion is provided concerning what I prefer between the two.
People decide to buy expensive brands and products to send a message about themselves. Different individuals do not buy a product because of the product’s high quality, craftsmanship applied to make the products or the raw materials used (Gladkikh and Vainer 18). They simply purchase a brand’s product because they want to pass a message to the public about themselves. They may communicate something about their social or economic status by purchasing a brand associated with a certain economic or social class. Considering the complexity and diversification of our modern society, I think this may be a great marketing strategy, especially for a public figure who intends to send a strong message to the public.
Individuals also purchase luxury brands to obtain a sense of belonging, boosting their self-esteem. Humans are social beings, and it is natural for them to try and find a sense of belonging. With the modern world growing so fast, people have found a way to establish this sense of belonging by purchasing a line of specific luxury brands (Gladkikh and Vainer 21). Such brands are usually associated with certain societal perceptions, which may boost the self-esteem of the individual owning the brand. I support this reason, especially considering that many people currently struggle with mental health issues. If you can find solace, comfort, and self-esteem in a brand or luxury product, then go for it; just ensure that you can afford it without straining too much.
Considering my preference, I would choose a mass-market product over a brand product any day. I do not appreciate unnecessary attention from the public only because you own a specific brand of product. I believe that this may turn out negatively. For instance, it makes you susceptible to attacks from criminals and thieves who may want to steal the luxury branded products from you. Moreover, when one decides not to focus on the brand, you allow yourself to focus on the things that matter. Attributes like the product’s durability, the material used, craftsmanship, and creativity applied when making the product (Pattnaik 415). This will ensure that you buy a product that suits your needs, which may not be the case when you only focus on a product’s brand. Therefore, I would always purchase mass-market segment clothes instead of branded clothes.
