INTEGRATION OF DIFFERENT DISCIPLINES IN ADDRESSING THE TLC THEME OF THE COMMUNITIES
Discrimination whether based on one’s gender or sexual orientation is a major issue in our communities. This is because discrimination leads to exclusion of individuals from important services which may result into aggressive behavior such as violence or mental disturbances and suicidal behavior. This is the reason why there have been concerted efforts to fight any form of discrimination. Various disciplines can be integrated in addressing this themes and this paper aims at discussing different approaches to addressing the issue.
One of the discrimination issue faced is homophobia. This is the fear, hatred, mistrust or discomfort of people who identify themselves as either gay, lesbian or bisexual. Homophobia is believed to be a repulsive behavioral response to prefer heterosexuality to homosexuality so as to facilitate reproduction and survival of humans. Another form of discrimination is sexism which is prejudice based on one’s gender and especially the discrimination against women. This mainly occurs in the work environment where by there are less women in employment when compared to men and this is especially in the top jobs. In some places, women are not paid the same amount as men despite having equal qualifications and doing similar jobs.
