Asian Indian Americans
Culture is a way of life embraced by a particular ethnic group of people. It is associated with arts, music, language, religion, customs, beliefs, dress and food that become portraits of the people. The article under analysis reviews three countries with diverse cultures, namely, Asian, Indian and American cultures. Out of the three, this paper will look at the Indian culture from the perspective of acculturation and assimilation processes.
As a result of acculturation and assimilation, the Indians are behaving and speaking like Americans, but still, they remain indigenous. In accordance with the article, the majority of Asian Indian people endeavor to preserve traditional Indian values and communicate them to their offspring. For instance, children are advised to marry within the community to maintain their Indian traditions. Therefore, despite the fact that the Indians are in a foreign nation with a diverse culture, they still follow and preserve their traditional beliefs and practices providing a solid ground on which historically developed Indian norms and values are easily transmitted from one generation to the next.
