Culture and the Process of Social Transmission Within a Society
Introduction
Culture is difficult to define since it describes vast and diverse intangible aspects of human social life. As supported by Lebrón (126), this includes traditions, beliefs, values, and practices shared among a particular group of people commonly referred to as a tribe. Sociologists have also defined culture as shared principles, communication, customs, language, and beliefs shared among a group of people that can be used to identify them as a whole. Culture performs a fundamental role in shaping societies through shared customs, ideals, values, and practices passed down from generation to generation (Scupin 12). This essay delves into the idea of culture and the system of social transmission within a society. By examining two common examples of cultural transmission, specifically language acquisition and rites of passage, this essay aims to gain insights into the large scope of cultural background and its effect on individuals and collective identities.
