Effect of Interpersonal Relationship to Job Satisfaction
After completing college, most graduates have many dreams they would achieve. Among them are to get a well paying job, a family, successful personal businesses and investments and others. They have a feeling that they should get back a dear reward for the time they have been struggling during their unforgiving school life. They check for job vacancies in the newspapers as well as in the internet. They attend to interviews and soon they get chances to secure jobs. Researchers have shown that, among those who secure jobs in places, there are those who give in even before the first month is over. Others find their new jobs interesting and stay in. There is a clear relationship between salary and job satisfaction (Hoppock, 120-132).
Different people perceive job satisfaction differently. Some workers become happy when they find a challenging problem in their areas of studies as it is a way of applying the creativity and experience attained. Others consider their job environment and their relationships with their colleagues. However, despite all these, the amount of salary one receives is not a major factor in job satisfaction (Hoppock, 110-119).
Job satisfaction can be an important indicator of how employees feel about their jobs and a predictor of work behaviors. This can cover areas such as absenteeism of the employees and their general turnover. A proper understanding of the factors involved in job satisfaction is crucial to enhance the happiness of workers (Lee and Wilbur, 783-796).
Job satisfaction among academics is very important because it contributes to quality of teaching, high job commitment and pave a right direction in producing high quality students. Understanding academics’ job satisfaction will help the institutions to find mechanism in order to retain academic talents, lower absenteeism and turnover rate, as well as attracting new best brain into the academic line (Hoppock, 100-110).
Job satisfaction does not depend majorly on salary for most people. For instance, in a research that was conducted among the information technologists proved that many employees stayed in their jobs not because of their salary but because of the favorable conditions in their work (Liden, 401-412). Most enjoy their jobs because of the intellectual challenges in the work as well as good relations with their colleagues. They also enjoyed flexible working schedules. Least percentage of employees will accept to change jobs for an increase in pay (Lee and Wilbur, 788-791).
There are effects of considering salary while looking for a job satisfaction. This is because; most of the employees are psychologically aligned to their jobs even when the net pay is low. From the surveys done, workers especially in the science sector are satisfied with the experiences they find in their work (Liden, 401-412). Although the pay contributes in job satisfaction, the workplace condition, experience and relationship with other colleagues counts the most (Lee and Wilbur, 781-788).
