Free will refers to the ability of a person to act at their own discretion; they do not need consent from people or being coerced.
Human beings are creatures of habit and the habits eventually greatly contribute to how we handle situations and our will is usually as a result of the daily activities we undertake. In addition to that, human beings feel the need to belong. This explains why Mary started smoking at a young age, and has failed in her attempts to quit smoking. Even so, she still feels like she wants to quit and with that mindset, she can give it one more try. Mary has the freedom to quit smoking.
Her determination has been as a result of her past experience with the dangers that smoking have brought into her life. For starters, her decision to smoke at an early age had been as a result of peer influence, and she could did it so that she could fit in with the rest of her friends. This need to belong made her start the habit because nobody likes to stick out like a sore thumb from the rest. In any case, had she refused, she would have been rejected by her friends. At thirty years of age, she is old enough to make her own decisions without being coerced.
Should Mary fail to quit, nobody should criticize her because is capable of making her own choices. Furthermore, she has felt the necessity to quit smoking, and this has been the driving force behind all the attempts she has made in the past. She is at liberty to quit because despite the many failed attempts, she still tries. Though this decision may be criticized by those people who may have witnessed her failed attempts, no one should undermine her or claim that failure was the predicted result.
If she had succeeded to quit smoking, she should have been congratulated because, this will be an assurance of how sheer will and determination could lead to achievement of any goal set. Mary deserves to be acknowledged by people because i...
