source..Is philosophy dead?
Stephen Hawking claimed that philosophy is dead and science is leading human, and by its tools, science has proved a great contribution to understand most of our daily aspects. He claimed that scientist “have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge” not philosophers. My first objection on his statement is the radical view he issued about philosophy, and its extremeness. The second objection is that believing in something to a great extent so that it make you blind is a dangerous situation especially when the subject is Stephen Hawking. My third objection would be that the lack of evidences he got to prove his statement made his conclusion, logically speaking, fragile. His materialistic point of view is actually true under some circumstances, and to science, all what is there is matter, nothing else. When we got deep down to the essence of things, we found that science lack explanations, as if science ability is only for observations, but what about things that we cannot observe. The problem with science, in my opinion, is that science is pragmatic, there are no rooms for idealism. The funny fact is that philosophy was the beginning of science, before there was anything called science, philosophy was there dominating explanations of both the observed objects and the non-observed ones.
