Positive Thinking
Positive thinking is the behavior of focusing on the good despite the situation. It, however, does not mean that one fails to acknowledge the facts behind a prevailing situation. It’s approached on two possibilities with an expectation that all will be well. In relation to mental health focus, positive thinking can be illustrated to be the mental attitude of focus on the bright side of life with the ultimate expectation of a positive outcome. But is it effective as it should be when applied in every situation? Positive thinking does affect mental health negatively. It ignores the bad side of an outcome which is needed for decision making.
Many people who have found themselves in a situation where they need consolation receive similar advice to think on the brighter side. When they apply this advice, in the long run, their self-esteem is seen down. According to White (2015), professors warn those who have permanently considered positive thinking as the only way to handle situations. White mentions that these group of permanent positive thinkers has a worsened feeling in the long run.
