The United States permitted free growing, buying, selling, and consuming of marijuana before 1937. Since 1941, the U.S has criminalized the activities mentioned above. Nevertheless, in recent years, the legalization of cannabis has ignited a critical debate among health experts, economists, industries, farmers, consumers, and the government. Advocates believe that legalization reduces government expenditures on criminalization, boosts economic growth, and augments the healthy well-being of consumers. However, opponents argue that decriminalization increases dependency expenditures causes anxiety disorders, and confronts regulation challenges (Merino 180).
