The excessive and unwarranted use of force by the police to the American citizens has become a matter of national contention. Human Rights lobby groups and the general public have aired their concern on the way the police illegally use excessive force on people. The issue becomes even more controversial when the data and research reveal that this kind of brutality is often meted disproportionately to the detriment of the African American race. The cry of the “Black Life Matter” has its genesis from the kind of atrocities that the black community undergo in the hands of the criminal justice department, especially the police (Chaney, and Robertson 482). As much as the issue of police brutality within the racial lines became an issue more than a century ago, this issue still is a bigger concern to the Criminal Justice Department. Police brutality has resulted in major police apathy among the black and the Latino who are, in many cases, the victims (Chaney, and Robertson 498). Major news media and non-governmental organizations have taken steps to dig into the come of this matter. They have provided data relevant to the cases of excessive police use and the inequality witnessed in terms of races. In a bid to ensure a more effective criminal justice system, there is a need for the government to address the issue of police brutality.
