Social Media Makes People Less Social
In essence, technology and social media in today's era have become addictive and distracting. The individuals find it difficult to communicate with their peers through face-to-face conversation than using their phones, which seems more comfortable (De Choudhury et al. 332). So many individuals seem to embrace technological devices such as phones to access various social media such as Facebook via the internet; thus, missing out on priorities, opportunities and conversation in reality. With the use of revolutionized technology in social media, people can connect with different people globally. Regarding the use of social media, it has hindered social interaction in real life; hence, encouraging dormant lifestyles. In other words, social media has caused individuals to become obsessed with other individuals online. Even people may decide to hang out with their friends in places of recreation in real life, but indeed, it has become increasingly mutual for individuals to still concentrate on their smartphones. Inevitably, individuals regularly focusing on social media get preoccupied and miss out on socializing with other people in person.
Those who argue that social media makes individuals less sociable may presuppose that technology links you to a wide range of individuals and provides the opportunity to engage and interact with these persons through media platforms or applications. While this is true, social media has taken a turn and is frequently used to depict one's life as fashionable, idealized, and glorified. (De Choudhury et al. 332). Despite social media's capacity to link people from all over the world, society has changed. Society has decided to move away from the past era and start aiming and looking for followers and likes from people on social media.
The studies assert that even though social media and the internet have helped people come together, it has facilitated the dividing of people. Social media has already caused hostility and disagreement through divisive topics such as music, politics, sports, religion. In other words, it has facilitated discrimination among different ethnicity (Kaplan and Haenlein 60). Although social media can be evaluated to have positive benefits, people have overused it to the extent that they have started to focus on internet sensation or internet platforms rather than personal life experiences.
Similarly, the literature evaluates and asserts that most American individuals spend most of their time on social media rather than socializing with other people in real life. Technology has taken a new stream that has affected society greatly (Anderson and Jiang 2). In other words, technology has created a boundary of separating people from raw and physical human interactions. The interaction via social media is fast and easy, which requires little effort; thus, causing unpromising to interact in person or face to face with other people. The sociologists and psychologists suggest that more than 45% of people feel uncomfortable and weird when social platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, or email becomes inaccessible due to network problems. Through this evidence, it can be proved that social media may be negatively impacting people. Individuals seem less likely to socialize and communicate if they are weird about anything happening on their phones.
Technology use and information access via the internet has made society abandon their real-life interaction or socialization since social media has been taken as a fun platform, comparing the lifestyle of others such as mode of dressing. Individuals feel more inclined to get shots of their night out rather than enjoying it authentically (Kaplan and Haenlein 60). Even in the social environment, many individuals tend to be on their technological devices because technology has reduced the idea of authentic real-life and physical, social interactions. Individuals tend to interact online rather than in person because social media is used as a secret place to watch unauthentic videos or pictur
