Effectivity of Multicultural Policy Principles in Creating Inclusive Society
Australia's multicultural policy for creating an inclusive society is based on equality, fairness, participation, and civic education. These policies are effective in creating an inclusive community. The purpose of this paper is to justify the efficiency of those policies in ensuring an inclusive society.
Equality is one of the policies. It is the act of making sure every person in a society has an equal opportunity to make the most of their lives and abilities. It ensures everyone has the same chance and gets equal treatment and aid. Equality is not just about reversing wealth and income inequality but also setting particular good effects on a society, which is called the equality effect. Lack of equality can affect the community in several ways, including; high crime rates due to increased violence and property crime, impacts on individuals' health caused by high anxiety issues and stress, adverse economic conditions of a country due to unequal opportunities leading to financial crisis and economic instabilities (Macwan). Equality in society gives people the freedom to associate with others, knowledge sharing, thus leading to productivity and confidence, leading to social and economic progress. This makes equality a good policy in the creation o an inclusive society.
Fairness is also another policy that is effective for ensuring an inclusive society. Fairness is also referred to as social justice. This implies making judgments that are free of discrimination, ecology of freedom, opportunity balance, and access to a representation of common law. Fairness matters because when there is an unfair and discrimination at high rates, there is increased tension and conflicts in societies and the international community. So, it is essential to practice fairness because it justifies responsibility and accountability in society (Dorling). Furthermore, it creates room for social and economic contribution in the community by providing equal opportunity to people leading a safer organization, and improving the financial disadvantage, thus creating an inclusive society.
Participation and civic values are also policies for practical inclusivity in society. Participation makes understanding in the community better and making decisions easier in communities, thus creating social capital. Community participation increases the transparency and performance of the issues and empowers society to portray their opinions over decisions that interfere with their lives. It gives people in a community opportunities to come up with ideas on decision-making processes through informing and teaching the society on how issues impact their lives (Block and Gibbs). The feedback that results from this engagement enables listening from all parties and, in turn, show the impact of contribution in society. Civic values are morals of conduct based on relationships between people and communities that maintain social order. They are a set of characters that are considered to be of positive impact to organizations. Development and inclusivity of society must be transmitted from time to time so that they are not lost. If civic values are not practiced in a good way in society, a lack of order, authority, and social chaos will arise in communities.
