The role of Chemistry in Environmental protection Chemistry play a very important role in environmental conservation and protection according to chemist (Ember, 1991) it helps in building new technology of understanding changes in the environment. The chemicals in the environment may be classified into toxic and non-toxic chemicals, toxic chemical maybe classified as dangerous and harmful chemicals into the environment they may cause pollution to the environment and may lead to lose of human life and other species while on the other hand nontoxic chemicals may lead to recycling of nutrients into the environment thus proving nutrients to producers and food to consumers. Toxic chemicals may include the following pesticides, carcinogens, mutagens among many others some of them have heavy metals thus harmful to the environment and is called pollutant on the other hand nontoxic include food additives and preservatives which help in food and soil preservation. According to chemist (wamm, 1998) there are many sources of pollution although they are classified as physical and chemical sources. They may also be further classified as organic and inorganic sources. The inorganic sources are non-biodegradable they pollutes environment and remain for a long period in the environment. However some organic are biodegradable while others are non-biodegradable. The biodegradables chemicals may release important chemicals into the environmental some would aid in soil fertility and recycling of nutrients thus maintaining ecosystem resilient into the environment. Similarly, in environmental protection there are some sources of pollution which may include industrial waste, water treatment, farm produces among many others these sources have contributed to environment degradation and loss of biodiversity to the environment.
