The Sociology and Cultural Aspect of Organized Society

A crime can be defined as an act that breaks or goes against the law. A crime involves going against a society’s set norms generating social deviance. On the other hand, organized crime is complex and requires various sociological theories to fully internalize and understand it. Organized crime mostly involves criminal, violent or outlawed activities committed by organized groups. Social, political and economic factors play a major part towards the development of organized crime in contemporary society. Globalization is also a major contributor towards emergence and sustenance of organized crime due to the ease of communication, interaction and travel. Therefore, this paper seeks to evaluate organized crime in a sociological perspective, integrating supportive theories and ideas.
Organized crime can be committed by various offenders who happen to interact within the society and share their deviance. Rostami 16, argues that organized crime is an overarching conducted by groups like mafias, crime networks and gangs. They all collaborate to achieve their plans through criminal collaboration. Organized crime cannot be defined by any single concept, as it is stereotyped and connected to any type of unexplained criminal events (Rostami 17). Organized crime is therefore viewed as a form of social organization that mostly entails groups of people with deviance traits within the society, who continuously challenge societal norms.
