Gender refers to the various aspects that define ones sexuality, which is what, makes one male and the other female. One cannot determine whether to be born male or female on at least not before they reach a given age and have a huge capital power to undergo corrective surgery thanks to the rise and growth in modern medicine one can in this day and age change his or her sex if they so wished. This virtue of being male or female has come to set an unprecedented division in what ought to be a unified human species. It is a fact that we cannot be all equal and perform the same kind of roles in these life but mankind has become even more divided than ever on the count of gender. People in different societies use gender to classify themselves into same types of job groups, positions of authority and statuses in the society.
In the website blog named Emma of the page title “You Should Have Asked” the author tries to urge and portray how the female gender has been exploited and down played by the male gender. The author tries to create a vivid picture to her readers by using a home scenario where a woman tends to do everything in the house from cooking for the whole family to feeding the kids; Doing laundry for the whole house hold and so on without getting any help from her male companion. Trying to portray a picture that in this modern day society females are the ones who seem to be more vulnerable to being taken advantage of by their male counter parts. To some extent the author might be right on the sense that both male and females should have that initiative and good the good will to want to help one another at any time as none of these two genders can do without the others. This blog makes the issue of gender be all about women and how they are the ones losing out in the quest for gender equality. The authors’ sentiments and arguments are not that compelling and convincing as the author should have also tried to talk of how males have been greatly affected by gender parity in the modern day society. The authors arguments come out as one sided and therefore biased in all levels.
There are reasons why there is division of roles and responsibilities when it comes to the day to day running a family unit, this role divisions have been there since time in memorial dating back from the times of Adam and Eve. God in His ultimate wisdom saw it wise that there be a clear distinction of what a man and a woman shall do; Such that while doing and fulfilling their different responsibilities, they shall complete one another and become one. Western societies tend to view and legitimize the aspect of placing people into gender groups by viewing it as a physiological issue brought about by male mad female sexual and reproductive differences .Sex and gender however, are not the same per say as there is no connection between gender and genitalia or reproductive organs ;Which are indeed the main physiological differences between male and females (Lober,56).
In real sense, there is no femininity or masculinity when it comes to human beings but once gender is brought on board the human mind is held captive to social orders that are full of strong gendered anticipations and norms. These social arrangements are backed strongly by various social aspects such as law, religion and cultural practices which may vary from one society to another (Lober, 58).
When gender is used to structure the social life of a particular society then the status of each gender should be spelt out in a very clear way, it should not therefore, matter what either of the two that is the males and the females does, even if they were to do the same kind of things; Instead, it should always try to champion that despite what the two genders do being similar, it be looked at as being different.
Gender is the social institution that brings about the proc...
