According to Machiavelli's theory of political leadership, several philosophers, scholars, and researchers have stated opposing opinions on the issue. Political leadership theory by Niccolo states that leaders must have strong ideals and self-esteem, as well as a large following, to be successful (Pugliese, p.15).
