Women in Islamic Societies
Even though the Qur'an covers women's well-being and development, Islamic societies perpetrate numerous human rights violations against them. Most people associate women in Islam with subjugation, inferiority, and inequality. This discrimination begins at birth – Islamic societies commiserate or lament about a girl's birth but celebrate a boy's birth. Furthermore, conservative Islamic teachings discourage family planning and maintain that women should wear veils and hijabs at all times. Therefore, Islamic societies deviate from Quranic ideals by being prejudiced toward women in marriage, child-rearing, and inheritance.
Patriarchism in Islamic societies treats women unfairly and unequally in marriage.
