How Is Technology Changing The Way Children Think And Focus?
The term thinking refers to the capacity to reason, reflect and draw conclusions that are dependent on one’s knowledge, experience and insights. Thinking is the character that makes people human and able to communicate to each other. As humans there are some technology advancements that actually affected people’s thinking capability. The early age is the time when a kid can be molded and natured. Internet and technology at large affected children’s way of thinking. However, technology has both beneficial and harmful effects. Children’s brains are in the process of developing but the brain is, at the same time, affected by the technology around. Technology can be a direct or indirect influence to a child grasping ability of information.
The technology available at present is said to determine how the brain cells of children develop. The art of reading and writing was a good advancement in terms of brain development because it encouraged the brain to be more imaginative and focused. Conversely, the rise of technology and Internet at large only encourages and promotes the ability to efficiently and rapidly scan information. According to research, it showed that the latest technology has the most influence on children when it comes to how children pay attention to information, think, learn and make decisions. People can imagine of attention as the only gateway to thinking. Without attention all the other aspects of thinking are diminished or cannot happen at all. These aspects can be decision-making, reasoning, language, memory and learning creativity. The ability of a child to focus and pay attention lays a good foundation of growth and leads to be a successful person in future. Attention, at the same time, is dependent on the immediate environment that a child is brought up. In human development, children who pay attention happen to develop into very bright students in school and, at the same time, logical and critical thinkers. Reading as an activity requires more attention and with less distractions. Due to the high levels of attention paid when someone reads, the chances of forgetting are low as compared to where there will be some distractions and less attention is paid.
The Internet affected negatively the thinking capacity of children and to an extent also affected the rate at which children grasp information. The tendency to forget among children increased because of the over reliance in search engines rather than in the past where kids were expected to read through the information and supposed to remember with ease. Internet has several distractions while learning online from things like popups. This issue, on the other hand, affects the attention paid to the topic of study and make children forgetful and not learning the culture of understanding. Due to many Internet distractions, imagination is poor and memory inhibited. Technology has a tendency of conditioning the brain of a human being into paying attention to information differently as compared to reading. Reading widened the scope of a child to think and create an imagination scenario that will improve the child’s thinking capacity. Reading as an art can be likened to scuba diving where there is a lot of gentleness and attention paid to details. Internet was thought to be jet skiing that is done in a hurriedly manner and less attention is paid to details. Children who are readers end up not being affected as such by technology as compared to the non-readers. To support the claim, research carried out indicated...
