A Century of Revolution 2 the Mao Years
The film focuses on the revolution depicting the events that were happening during the revolution period. The movie begins with Chinese Communist Party taking control in the year 1949, immediately after the revolution. Some of the key issue highlighted in the film include how the Communist Party consolidated their power to fight against their enemies. The role that the Chinese played in the Korean War. The communists’ consolidation of authority gave rise to equality and women representation in society, giving land to the peasant farmers and enhancing substantial benefits to the workers. The Cultural Revolution and industrial modernization are among the key areas that Mao paid attention to during his years of reign.
The leaders were able to bring normalcy in China after the revolution and came up with the Mao cult. The cult leader took total control of the population and dictatorship with people hailing the name of their leaders all over. The Mao leaders concentrated on the implementation of policies that were favoring the indigenous communists. They encouraged the peasant farmers to kill the landlords and also kill all those people of foreign origin and those indigenous citizens who closely associated with these foreigners. By the year 1950 the lives of the people improved and the government encouraged the abolishment of private property and the socialization of agriculture to pay for government projects. Intellectual and cultural activities were highly controlled. Assembling of groups of people was highly prohibited, and those who did not heed to the rules were killed and others jailed. There came the "Great Leap Forward" campaign that had the aim of industrializing the nation with an increase in working hours. Farmers working day and night to increase their output but they were taxed to pay for the industrial expansion. In the early 1960 Mao left public service but remained a public icon who influenced many things within the country. In the year 1966 Mao came up with the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, which led to the youths who believed in him strongly killing people, looting property, ransacking and punishing people. Red Guard youths were driven by the words of Mao "rough and harsh and wild”. This lead to the death of 400, 000 people. It ended in the year 1968, and Mao died in the year 1976.
