Kikuchiyo
Kikuchiyo’s character is gradually reveled as the film progresses, becoming more understandable and likeable. The overriding factor in Kikuchiyo’s character is his being ungrounded. His character is that of a joker who people see as clown. As seen in the beginning of the movie, Kikuchiyo is a person whose destiny is to become one of samurai’s warriors but was a farmer before. He fights with thieves and it is through this fight that he is able to learn more about becoming samurai warrior and at the end of the movie, Kikuchiyo dies as a warrior.
Since Kikuchiyo hails from a family whose parents are small scale farmer, he has a better understanding of the life of a farmer. He does not like the way some farmers are proud thus he prefers to leave farming and become a Samurai warrior. The relationship between the farmers and the warriors is better portrayed by Kikuchiyo since he is able to connect the characters of the two. This makes Kikuchiyo to become an important character in the movie. Kikuchiyo is a character who is able to act both the roles as a clown as well as, a warrior. Another character that Kikuchiyo portrays is that of a brave person. In one particular episode Kikuchiyo takes away the weapons that farmers keep away from the seven samurai. Samurai warriors get furious with the farmers and are set to fight the farmers. However, Kikuchiyo defends the farmers from the warriors since he knows that it is due to the acts of Samurai warriors that the farmers are hiding weapons in order to defend their farms from the warriors.
Kikuchiyo is a delicate character who does not like to see other people suffering. It is due to this reason that he stand to defend the farmers from the warriors. At some point he sheds tears due to the plight of the farmer. Samurai warriors see farmers as stupid people who are miserable and can commit murder. According to Kikuchiyo, it is Samurai warriors that made farmers to have these undesirable traits since they took away their livestock. He does not fear to tell them the truth as he feels that they blame farmers for the acts that could be prevented.
