Corruption in Nigeria
Azeez, Biola. (2018). Corruption: Nigeria Heading for Doom-Ayo Salami. Nigerian Tribune [Oyo State, Nigeria], 20 Nov.2018.Infootrac Newsstand, http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/A562865625/STND?u=txshracd2512&sid=STND&xid=e86f8ff2. Accessed 1 Feb. 2019. This source whose verifiability is credible as is evinced in the media house that published it, Nigerian Tribune is an exposition of an outcry on Nigeria’s alarming and equally-disturbing rate of corruption. From this source, it is deducible that the author is seemingly aggrieved by the towering level of corruption in the country, which he contends has the propensity for precipitating a monumental disaster of a holocaust impact to the state if it goes unchecked. Among critical issues brought to light in this article is the issue of revenue loss to perceived corrupt practices in the country. For instance, the source identifies that up to a whopping $ 2.6 trillion as per United Nations estimations is yearly lost to corrupt dealings with this figure occurring to represent up to five percent of the gross domestic product of the entire world (Azeez, n.p). It follows that such is a colossal amount that arguably diminishes the potency the country could make towards bettering its economy. It is, nonetheless, critical to establish that the most potent issue addressed in this paper is the extent of the damage that corruption could yield if it goes unchecked or somewhat unaddressed in the country.
