Introduction
A linkage is a treaty between the school system, parents groups, cultural organizations and industry communities (Department of Education, 1988). Linkages are beneficial due to the fact that employers familiarize themselves with today’s educational programs while on the other hand it helps making employees competent workers in their occupations. Therefore, this essay will, focus on further expounding of the relationship between the course and the linkage program by focusing on the following:
Insights learned about ties from the article
Linkages are official, contractual bonds between employees and training providers on job-specific training for targeted employees groups (Carnevale, 1990). Linkages are therefore important to young men and women as it prepares them better for lifelong careers. Moreover, they are important as far as they improve access of the right people to the right programs. Lastly, it increases knowledge and understanding of mission, values, and goals of an organization. Despite of the benefits of linkages, investment and interdependence are among the rules of successful linkages (Carnevale, 1990). It requires a significant investment to train interns in order both to help the latter and to benefit the organization.
Insights I have learned about linkages from my interviews
An interview is a formal meeting carried out in person for assessment purposes (Engbretson, & Reter, 1981). During the interview for a linkage program, I have learned a few important issues about linkages. Firstly, it is the essential information about the organization such as its vision and mission statement. It is critical since it has helped me to identify if my career objective is in line with the organization’s vision and mission. Secondly, my interviews helped me to learn about the organizational goals such as short range and intermediate goals. It, therefore, provided me with guidelines and a schedule of my duties during the WED program. Lastly, I had an opportunity to understand the Human Resource environment, different staff issues, their functions and responsibilities, which is highly important before joining the organization.
What I have learned about linkages
The most relevant aspect that I have learned about linkages and which may be applied in my life is a set of rules about successful linkages. The first rule implies that a linkage is an employer’s investment in the imparting of employees with the experience necessary for a particular job.
Secondly, the organization stuff also provides information and inspiration to the interns (Department of Education, 1988). It aims at making them well informed and motivated. Lastly, linkages provide interdependence between the organization and the trainees. It is because the society benefits from interns’ knowledge and skills acquired from their courses while interns benefit from gaining experience from the organization and its members of staff.
Experience of the course that has helped most to make a career choice within WED
WED is the Department of Workforce Education and Development that requires candidates to undergo training and human resource development in a job entity (Engbretson, & Reter, 1981). Individual experiences from the course of study can help interns to make a decision on their career choice within WED. They include drafting of proposals that may be used to seek funds for the organization projects. Writing of proposals is mandatory in most courses, which, therefore, equips students with the experience that can help the former to make a decision on a career choice within WED.
Besides, students with the experience in designing materials for Powerpoint presentation from their course work can offer this experience to the organization. Other experiences include students’ skills in seeking donors to fund projects for the organization and assisting in conducting follow-up studies for the groups, as they are young and energetic.
