Upward mobility is the ability to move up socially and economically throughout one's life, either in terms of one's career, status, or wealth. By advancing my education, I am taking steps to increase my knowledge base and expand my horizons, allowing me to gain the skills and insight necessary to reach my goals. My educational goals include obtaining a higher degree that will enable me to pursue a career in a specialization I am devoted to. I am currently studying Psychology and am hoping to complete a master's degree in the subject, which will give me the experience and qualifications I need to work in the field. With higher education, I am also hoping to gain the necessary skills to be able to compete in the career market with conviction and secure a well-paying job that will provide me with financial security. Having a higher education will also provide me with the opportunity to work in a variety of different fields and positions, which will give me more flexibility and the chance to explore different pathways in my career. I am also hoping that my education will open up new doors and opportunities that I may not have been able to access before. Finally, I am looking to use my education to become a role model for my family and other young people. I want to be able to demonstrate to them that with hard work and dedication, they can achieve their dreams and reach their goals. Jennifer Morton defines ‘ethical costs’ as the personal and professional sacrifices that individuals must make in order to access the educational and economic opportunities they desire (Morton, 2019).
