Introduction
Gendered communication simply means how the two genders, male and female communicate. Understanding this is important in ensuring effective communication between the two. It is characterized by different verbal and non-verbal communication skills. The movie "Just One of the Guys," is used for this study since it gives a clear understanding of gendered communication because of the many instances where this is depicted.
Body

2 Communication Styles
* Use of artifacts.
* Terry Griffith changes her look to become that of a boy.
* Change of looks to that of a boy leads to a change in clothes to go with it.
* Personal Space and kinesics.
* Men are considered as "space intruders" and hence have a greater access to space as compared to women.
* From the movie, bullies are male led by Greg Tolan who later picks up a fight with Rick.
* Women also smile more as compared to their male counterparts. Buddy’s girlfriend beckons him with a smile to join her on her motorcycle.
* Haptics.
* This involves the sense of touch which is mostly felt by women as compared to men.
* Terry desperately kisses Rick to show how she really felt for him but Rick is unfazed by this.
3 Theories
* Tannen’s Theory.
* Status vs. Support. Men look for status while women look for a companion who provides emotional support. This is shown when Terry falls in love with Rick.
* Advice vs. Understanding. Men look for advice that will help them solve a problem while women look for an understanding of their problem that will make other people sympathize with them. Terry’s brother understands her problem and he hence helps her solve it.
* Muted Group Theory.
From the movie, women are seen to lack power in communication. Terry is not told why she does not get her dream job and concludes that it is because she is a girl. Although this is not the case, it shows that at times, women are powerless over men
* Genderlect Theory
* Minimal responses. Women give minimal responses like the use of paralinguistic features like "mmh" to show they agree with what someone is saying.
* Questions. Women ask questions more often compared to men.
Conclusion
Men and women communicate differently and hence need to understand how each of them communicates so as to ensure effectiveness in their conversation. This will aid in reducing the amount of conflicts they face when trying to talk to each other.

Terry is involved in many episodes but the most noted one, is her feelings for Rick who has no idea of this, or whether she is female, since he knew her as a boy.
