ENWISTLE REVIEW ASSIGNMENT Student’s Name Liberty University Summary Summary of Chapter 8: As human beings, we are subordinates of God. Having said this, it is objective to conclude that we are weaker, and have more flaws than Him. As such, human beings are not perfect, and are bound to commit sins, even if they try or avoid not to. Sins have become partners of human beings over time, since mistakes are hard to avoid. Because of this, committing sins has become natural for people. To this end, many sins have become integrated in specific cultures in various parts of the world. It is believed that death is one means human beings pay for the consequence of committing sins on earth. It is important to note, that to some levels, it is a common human insight to believe that the existence of karma is indeed real. Karma exists on the notion that what we give is what we get. If human beings do good deeds, they reap the rewards for doing so, even in indirect means. This situation runs in contrary to what fate and God eventually lead human beings to experience if the latter commit evil deeds. Human beings are naturally known to have been created in the mirroring goodness of the image of God. This insight coincides with the principle that, therefore, no human being is naturally born evil. The reflecting goodness of God as seen in his creations (i.e., human beings) is thwarted, due to varying situations humans encounter on a regular basis. Most of these situations, oftentimes, turn out to have occurred beyond the control of individuals who encounter the said scenarios. Summary of Chapter 9: Many people go to sleep at night harboring resentment and anger towards their enemies. These people may find it difficult to get peaceful rest. Negative emotions and feelings humans carry on are likely going to cause them to find it challenging to find closure. Not having closure can lead individuals to not attain peace of mind. There are Bible experts, though, who do hold the belief that it is a sin to not bestow forgiveness upon retiring to sleep at night. These experts prioritize peace, and not war. Hence, they are likely going to condemn human beings possessing a chaotic mind due to absence of forgiveness upon taking a rest. Human beings who have accrued enemies are known to have normally pushed the reasons behind their arguments to address oppositions (Enwistle, 2015). The former individuals hold firm beliefs and principles, and practice actions that indicate they are determined to stand by their beliefs no matter what happens. Examples of the beliefs the said individuals hold include religious beliefs and principles. People who strongly stand by their religious beliefs view others’ arguments as attacks towards their beings, and are religiously corrupt. An individual group called spies only have self-centered intentions that are may harm others’ welfare in seeking the attainment of their goals (Enwistle, 2015). Others have to take precaution when they encounter spies, as the latter may do harm behind people’s backs. Colonialists, though, are individuals who seek to take control of others’ lives and situations (Enwistle, 2015). It gives colonialists satisfaction when they witness themselves dominate over other individuals and events. Rebuilders aim to heal and repair relationships among families, friends, and other loved ones (Enwistle, 2015). Of course, these people rebuild relationships based on Christian values and principles. Members of the neutral parties tend to be fair and balanced when disseminating insights and taking actions in the decisions they make (Enwistle, 2015). Allies have similar endeavors as rebuilders-that which is to unite Christians, and spread love amongst the latter. Summary of Chapter 10: It goes to show religious devotees and followers that bestow faith upon the Gods of the religions being followed or supported is not enough, sometimes. Such a situation, at times, ensues as many religious devotees opt to attend classes in schools that specialize in the mastery of religious studies and practices. Individuals who pursue religious studies may have decided to do so to expand their knowledge of the nature and practices of the religions they follow. On the other hand, pursuance of religious studies may have been done due to the desire of some devotees to feel closer to the religions they adhere to. Getting to know the religions being adhered to, can, at times, generate sentimental feelings. Thus, when followers incur these feelings, the former tends to appreciate the importance of their religions in the long run. Summary of Chapter 11: The field of Christian psychology tends to correlate religious beliefs to that of practical situations humans encounter on a daily basis. As such, Christian psychologists does not view religion as a campaign of conservative faith and devotion. These concepts or notions are relatively new in society. In the past couple of decades or so, many, if not, most, religious followers see religiousness as exclusively tied to the exhibition of conservative actions and decisions. Interaction It makes me feel relieved from being worried that I may have turned into a bad person after I have read Chapter 8. I have felt that I may have become a bad person due to the sins I have committed. I am a perfectionist individual. Most of the time, I see mistakes as grave flaws that break people. Reading Chapter 8 has opened up my belief that regardless that we do our best to avoid sinning and making mistakes, the saying that “to err is human” is always in existence in practice. The model of disciplinary relationships that best suits me is that of the rebuilders. I am a loving, compassionate, and peace-seeking person. So, I constantly invest an effort in spreading positive vibes and sentiments to any other person I encounter in life. However, I most especially spread the points of view that evoke feel good reactions and emotions amongst the people who are close to me (i.e., family, friends, and other loved ones). In a way, I can describe myself as similar to a good Samaritan as an individual who practices the disciplinary relationships model of being a rebuilder. A rebuilder and a good Samaritan all have one common goal of spreading goodwill on earth. After having read Chapter 10, I am still not convinced of faith enhancement brought about by the pursuance of religious studies. I have held, and still holds to this day, the firm belief that religious devotion is something people firmly adheres to if they are determined to do so. I believe that determination holds the key to cementing loyalty. Being loyal to religions adhered to eventually paves the way for devotees to become keen on getting to know religious practices. Hence, in the long run, devotees have no problem becoming appreciative of the importance of the religious values they believe in. Religion has been present in people’s lives since ancient times (Sherlock, 2008).
