Introduction
The two main categories of religions are the Abrahamic and Dharmic. According to Klein, Bullik, & Streib, (2018), Abrahamic faiths comprise Christianity, Islam, and Judaism while the Dharmic religions constitute of the Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism. However, each subcategory of religion organizes itself in a way distinct from the others. In spite of their difference in the manner in which they worship, all religions believe in the existence of a supernatural being (Mason, 2016). Plato, a philosopher, referred to the supernatural being as “the one” and asserted that the extraordinary being dwells in the spiritual realm where everything appears in an original form. Therefore, the world is but a replica of the unique world whose existence has never been proven by the current believers but dwells in their perception.
People with the same beliefs come together to form religion. Durkheim holds that religion is an “outstanding form” of the people with the same consciousness (Clarke, 2018). His is a sociological approach to the concept of the formation of cults. According to Durkheim the corrective conscious of religion build on collective representations and serves to bind glue societies together through rites. For instances, there are many religious holidays, customs and art.
