Literature Review on the Novel "Jazz"
One of three books Morrison has written on Love, and its many forms, Jazz (1992) is the second in that trilogy. After seeing a James Van Der Zee picture of a young lady who had been shot and killed with a silenced pistol at a rent party, I decided to write a book about that young woman's final words to her friends (Morrison). It is possible that she knew she was going to die the following day, but she did not want to betray her boyfriend, the guy who killed her. Harlem, New York, as seen through the eyes of Joe and Violet Trace, two of its most common residents, is the setting for this narrative. To better understand how African Americans migrated from rural areas to the metropolis during the Great Migration, the novel's protagonists are a married couple. When Joe and Violet start a new life in the city, they must deal with the memories from their backstories that continue to plague them and define who they are. As they grow up in the rural south, they gain both the abilities and the limitations that will serve them well in the city. Harlem Renaissance as well as the New Negro are depicted from an insider's perspective in the book, which spans both the post-Civil War as well as the post-World War I period. There are several themes within Jazz. The title of a jazz book is significant in and of itself since it is tied to a kind of music that does not follow a set pattern. In the setting of slavery and racism, jazz book was written. It is possible to connect the novel's structure to that of a jazz composition, and so the titles "Title Significance and Jazz Novel" may be used interchangeably.
