Reflection on Inquiry-Based learning
Inquiry-based pedagogy (IBL) takes center stage mostly in Western education. I believe that an inquiry-based approach is a powerful tool that allows learners to gain greater control of their education, making them more critical of their advancement through active contributions. By allowing learners to experience activities, IBL ensures learners get into character and learn through a sense of freedom.
The IBL fetches quite a few benefits. This approach allows the instructor to assess a learner’s prior knowledge, kindle the student’s motivation, and boost self-learning abilities (Chen, n.d.). In IBL, learners are encouraged to question and give hypothetical responses and test their ideas individually or as a group through experimentation. Hence, IBL reinforces learner curiosity, more profound understanding, critical thinking, teamwork, and social skills. Still, we need to take the IBL approach with caution for instructors. Students should know what they are learning rather than acquire factual information. Also, systemic restrictions may deter the ability to implement IBL, necessitating administrators and institutional culture to embrace this style (Yew and Goh, 2016).
I intend to integrate IBL into my lesson plan stage by stage to have learners reflect on their learning and how they can succeed and gain new knowledge and skills. I understand that IBL not only creates opportunities for learners through exploration and reflection but also collaboration. I expect to keep my classes engaging through group work.
