Transformative Leadership: Applying Organizational Leadership Principles in Healthcare
The knowledge I have gained in my current position as a project manager at a healthcare organization in the "Organizational Leadership & Decision Making" course has shaped my handiness in approaching leadership and decision-making. Among the concepts, servant leadership captures the most attention (Curado & Santos, 2022). This approach encompasses putting employees and cooperation ahead of all else and thus setting up a supportive work atmosphere. One can say that this value is not only consistent with the main idea of healthcare, where the patient's care is always the priority number, but it is also its backbone that holds everything together.
I tried to improve efficiency, for example, through a project where I was responsible for leading the implementation of a new electronic health record system. In this role, I empowered my team members by providing them with the required resources, support, and a good example of efficiency and expertise. Through applying servant leadership, I fostered high trust and mutual respect and finally attained a team that worked effectively. This ensured the success of the project.
Consequently, the lecture also gave me glimpses of ethical decision-making, which is required to be very special in healthcare, and ethical dilemmas are often there. These include ethical frameworks and decision models that I learned and can now be used to manage ethical dilemmas effectively and avoid conflicts of interest (Jacobs, 2020). Being an ethics nurse, I face ethical predicaments all the time; for example, this means understanding while treating patients, and I have to admit to having few resources. I will be able to draw on the ethical principles I have collected throughout the course and ensure that I make responsible decisions that will respect the code of conduct and ethics.
Moreover, the program empowered my ability in strategic planning and change management, which are the vaccines against sluggishness of progress and are the engines of improvement in healthcare. For example, to make a quality management plan for medication mistakes, I think with oversight tools, I can understand the current steps, define what can be improved, and put the evidence-based steps to work. Adhering to the tenets of change management enabled me to convince key players of the rationale behind the change and leverage their support for the implementation. In addition, I maintained continuity throughout the process despite the challenges that appeared along the way.
I can see myself exploring how to implement what has been learned from this course in my current work situation. For example, I will use my knowledge of organizational culture as well as team dynamics to create a work environment that will allow for constant advancement and innovation (Usman, 2020). Through open communication, collaboration, and learning, we can bring a breaking change toward achieving our joint objectives more effectively.
Secondly, with medicine constantly improving due to technology and shifts in policy and regulations, I acknowledge that the role of keeping up with new trends and changes in the career is dynamic. One of the things I've learned from this course is taught deep inside the lifelong learning mission and self-development commitment, which, in my view, is a precondition of success in any leadership office.
