Flu, also known as influenza is a contagious respiratory disease that is caused by an influenza virus and it infects the throat, nose, and sometimes lungs. It can have either mild or severe effects to an individual and in some instances may lead to death. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the annual global prevalence of influenza epidemics lies between three to five million incidences of severe illnesses (Paget et al., 2019). The organization further states that the prevalence in death cases resulting from this disease is between 250,000 and 500,000 annually (Paget et al., 2019). The occurrence of influenza is either seasonal or constant, depending on the region.
