Whenever a leader maintains high levels of courage, it becomes easy to have a particular stand point which is beneficial to the majority. With high levels of courage, it becomes easy for the leader to acquire the fruits and benefits of behaving ethically. Take an example of AIG leaders, their decisions to pay bonuses was majorly rest on the contractual obligation which they had. Fulfilling contractual obligation is an important characteristic of developing a straight forward working environment. However, it is important for leaders to weigh the costs and benefits attached before coming towards a particular conclusion. This in the end makes the leader to act ethically within the organization.
In order to step out of such fear, leaders have to ensure that maintain a positive attitude. Maintaining a positive attitude includes ensuring that employees have a proper job satisfaction and high levels of commitment (Treviño & Brown, 2005). Through such commitment, it becomes easy to obtain the set goals and objective within the organization. Organizational behavior is the key element which guides on performance and enhances the attention to achieve the best. Moreover, there is need to minimize on deviance by ensuring that organization rules and regulations are followed. Such behavior ultimately leads to the best in terms of job performance.
Give an example of a business situation where you observed a leader acting unethically or ethically.
Leaders should make wise choices in terms of choosing the right type of behavior. Decision making processes have to be in line with the required principles of the organization. Therefore, in order for a leader to work towards achieving the best for organization there is needed to prioritize on the decision making approaches (Daft, 2014). In cases whereby decision making approaches lead to the best for the organization, the leader can choose to make use of the ethical choices. Acting ethically or unethically majorly depends on how the leader controls a particular working environment.
I have worked for an organization whereby one of the supervisors took part in unethical practices by selling company products to the black market without consent of the organization. The supervisor usually snitched company products to the external environment without any consent of the top management. This was quite unethical simply because the procedures of supplying company products to the external environment was completely against the organizations supply and demand rules and regulations.
The supervisor behaved in an unethical way by failing to observe the requirements of following the expectations of the greatest. In such a case, the supervisor failed to consider the ethical provisions of stimulating organizational outcome. Behaving in an ethical way, more so to leaders and supervisors is a matter of choices and priorities. Decision making approaches for leaders has to be at the heart of the organization in order to ensure that the set goals and objectives are easily achieved (Daft, 2014). In a working environment it is important for a leader to follow the requirements mentioned below:
* Adhering to given rules and regulations of the organization.
* Maintaining a positive behavior which is the key of achieving the best in the long-term.
* Creating an influential environment within the organization.
Knowing What You Know Now and counseling the leader
Based on the information I have acquired, I could have advised the leader on the need to follow organizational rules and regulations in order to ensure that the set goals and objectives are achieved easily. I could have counseled the supervisor for the organization I was working for to stick towards respecting rules and regulations. This is per the set organization principles, rules and regulations. Therefore, organizational rules and regulations need to be adhered to in order to ensure that the best is achieved in future. The leader should also ensure that a high level of discipline is maintained across the organization.
Moreover, I could have counseled the leader on the need for honestly and transparency within the organization in order to ensure that actions are goal oriented and focused on the needs of the organizations. I could have advised the supervisor on the need to spearhead organizational objectives with the need to acquire the best in the long-term. An evaluation of the organizational provision is a significant characteristic of ensuring that the best is achieved in the long-term in as far as decision making approaches are concerned.
I could have advised the supervisor on the need to focus on actions which enhances organizational output in order to attract future relations
