While a leader is a person who directs people within the organization the leadership is that act of issuing a direction to the people in the organization to ensure the set goals and targets are achieved (Northouse, 2010). There are various forms of leadership, but the resonant leadership stands out among the exceptional transformative leadership that organizations should yearn to establish. The resonant leadership was developed as a management style that controls the adverse effects of emotion. Resonant leaders exhibit a considerable control over emotion. Such leaders possess the emotional intelligence (Taner & Aysen, 2012). The emotional intelligence helps the manager to interact freely with other workforce without becoming temperamental. The resonant leaders are able to differentiate themselves from other leaders due to their ability to control their emotions. They possess three key attributes; mindfulness, hope, and compassion. These attributes help the managers to position their emotions which differentiate them from other leaders (Lutzo, 2005). The main difference between resonant leaders and other leaders is their ability to use the emotional intelligence. They are able to keep the negatives away and focus on the core issues of the business.
Mindfulness is an important element of resonant leadership. Mindfulness can be addressed as having an awareness of the happenings that are taking place within the heart of a person while at the same time not losing the control of the external surroundings. A resonant leader is able to evaluate their emotions within them and ensure that they do not influence their performance adversely. There are some stressing challenges like the loss of a relative, the attacks by natural disasters, serious illnesses or financial constraints that can destroy the happiness of a person. However, despite all these, a resonant leader is able to maintain a positive attitude in work by suppressing the negative emotions and demanding happiness to achieve the prosperity (Madden et al., 2012). Boyatzis and McKee (2005) acknowledge mindfulness as being awake and aware. The resonant leaders are completely aware of themselves and the potential obstacles that can ruin their working capacity. They iron out the hardships that make people lose the peace of mind to help them work efficiently. Emotions can at times destroy the working ability of a person when one becomes much entrenched and controlled by them. A leader can be the riskiest person if they are controlled by the emotions. The people under him or her will suffer leading to the holistic suffering of the institution or organization. A resonant leader has the capacity to beat the emotions through the emotional intelligence.
Hope is a significant element of the resonant leadership. Hope is centered on delineating a course of action and being driven by the belief that the set goals will be realized. Resonant managers are determined to meet the goals regardless of the constraints creating the impossibility. Resonant leaders have great dreams and believe in continuous development where they work towards achieving such dreams. They are hopeful and inspiring, and this enables them to remain optimistic in the world of business (Taner & Aysen, 2012). Resonant leaders do not stop at anything. Obstacles are just the stepping stone for them to realize their dreams. They keep dreaming and exercising hopes to achieve their dreams. This leadership is integral to any organization. The main desire of an organization is to grow and make a profit. Growth can’t be realized without t the plans and strategy. The plans are delineated after focusing on the future and developing a solid dream. Plans are the means to achieve the dreams. It is prudent to know that achieving the dreams calls for high hopes and determination. It is nearly impossible to achieve a dream without having the hope. Resonant managers are hopeful and dream big, and this makes them assets in their organization. They work towards eliminating barriers in the path of their dreams. Hope is cited as their power that helps them to overcome the challenges in their dreams.
Resonant leadership is full of compassion. Compassion is a powerful way that characterizes this leadership with the ability to stimulate the mind of others, motivate, and inspire them as well as supporting them to achieve their dreams (Boyatzis et al., 2013). The resonant leaders act as mentors, and they have great desire to assist the upcoming future leaders and nurture them. They are future-oriented, and thus they seek to inspire people to dream big and not to relent in following their dreams. This element also shows the degree of care that these leaders show to other people. Within an organization, they are valuable since they gravitate towards supporting the growth of skills and knowledge by other fellow colleagues. This translates to the transformation of the workforce who instead seeks to improve their worth in the company. They will become determined to make it after realizing the backup given by their leaders. Ultimately, the organization will grow holistically due to the determination of its workforce. Resonant leaders are thus good in stimulating and mentoring the workforce to help the organization embrace the continuous improvement. Taner and Aysen (2012) present that, resonant leaders are able to show sympathy to their counterparts especially when the counterparts are struck by a wave of a challenge that can disorient their emotions. They are able to discern a hard situation that a person may be going through and in return, they show empathy and work toward improving the emotional intelligence in them. This is an element of brotherhood which strengthens the victim.
Job stress is a common thing within the working environment but can be beaten depending on the leadership style a person possesses. The stress may be caused by the failure to let off the family matters while at work, working under strict deadlines or even dealing with the un-appreciating boss. The prevention and cure of the job stress at the workplace can be cited as the adoption of resonant leadership (Laschinger et al., 2014). A leader who is resonant is hardly likely to cause or allow any job stress to prevail within their hearts of their workforce, unlike the dissonant leader. A dissonant leader is unable to control his or her own stress leave alone expressing compassion to the workforce. A person can only give what he or she possesses. It is not easy to accord the peace of mind to another whereas you lacked it in yourself. A resonant leader works hard to establish peace of mind to ensure the dreams are kept in place. He or she then trickles this attitude to the fellow employees. Through emotional intelligence, it is possible for a resonant leader to overcome the job s...
