Abstract
In this paper I will provide a detailed research into my personal ethical code and provide a possible alternative career choice as well, which in this case will be Director of Athletics in a college. I will also provide a discussion on plans for my future and this will entail a five year plan for the completion of my military career. Furthermore, I aim to outline ten years of active activity as a football coach at the collegiate level, which will be followed by an articulate point-out of my ultimate goals of where I see myself. This will ultimately present an open description of the path that I will take to achieve my three key goals. They include; attaining a graduate degree in sports management, finishing my military career in the next six years and eventually enrolling for coaching internship at a local college.
Background
My personal values and ethics essentially act as the foundation of my wellbeing both as a person, family member and as a stakeholder in the society. For instance, according to Gilman(2005) “Codes of ethics are written to guide behaviors of an individual that are dictated by values.” Values are significant to any individual especially for me, bearing in mind the need to focus on appropriate personal values (Washington and Lee University. 2010). With respect to values, I have grown to learn how to distinguish between right and wrong based on an ethical perspective. This ability to establish a distinction does not just ensue easily but it’s a product of what my parents and my teachers have invested in me. For instance, my parents have invested a lot in me so that I may not just grow up as human being but I also may be in a position to realize the purpose which I was born to accomplish and that that is; being a person of right morals, incredible values and being able to fulfill my personal career goals. On the other hand personal values dictate the achievement of the mission, without proper values failing to accomplish what the mission provides is inevitable (Collegiate School, 2010). Besides, what my teachers invested in me has not only opened my mind but also has shaped my insight that am able to realize my rightful place in the society. In general, as per the foundation built by my parents, it is apparently established in my mind and heart to prioritize the affairs of my family that founded my origin and my wellbeing as an individual. This helps me to evaluate the morality of my potential actions with an ends-based approach by considering the consequences for the rest of my family with me included (Gower, 2008). Conceptually, my focus will entail upholding proper ethics and values both at the family and organization level. In line with arguments posted by Valentine & Barnett (2004), “ethics and values are the most significant elements in fostering and maintaining organization cohesion productivity which also attributes to personal and group achievement.”
I cannot refute or deny the efforts made by various stakeholders starting with my family and teachers towards achieving my goals in life. Having decided to focus on a career that subscribes to sports and games, to many parents it would be a disastrous decision or career choice because of the expectations most guardians have from their children. However, my family, especially parents, have given me their support, not only giving me a go ahead to pursue a degree in sports management but also making personalized follow up to get advice from my tutors on how I ought to maneuver in the career sector to achieve excellence. Basically, it’s the impartation of values by these people who act as mentors and leaders that makes one more ethical by promoting advancement beyond the scope of one’s vision (Gilman, 2005).
Ethos statement
Due to the background that I have been raised in, I pledge my commitment to counter any form of challenge that might come in my way, I believe that nothing comes easy and since in every success, there is a story behind it that defines the journey which the person who has succeeded has walked through (Georgetown University. n.d.). I have great expectation regardless the long and tough journey of training and this will help me do what my heart tells me to do and execute with great wit on how my mind will direct me to do without blaming anyone in case of any failures or success.
Sports management degree studies
My career approach begun by enrolling for degree in sports management and this cause took four years after which was followed by enrolling to army training. During the first year in the university, I studied introduction and basic units of the course that provided a clear insight on what sports management entails. This was pivotal for me in the campus since it formed the foundation or basis of my career and course. It is within this year that my relationship with my tutors was established and also I strategized a clear guidance on how to pursue my career objectives. During the second and third year, the studies went deep and later I embarked on Making preparations for graduation with sports management degree that was a companied by missives research that equipped me with knowledge on how go about in my career while maintaining high levels of ethics.
Cause
The main reason to begin with undertaking a degree in sports management is that in the United States for instance, the lowest level of education that guarantees an individual to join military is undergraduate degree. Therefore, since my career line was sports management and becoming a head coach in future for various prominent football clubs in United States and in the world, having a degree in sports management was a basic requirement for my career development. Another reason as to why having graduate degree was that it was to guarantee me to begin seeking for internship and other opportunities that would help me develop my skills and experience.
Mission and Vision
In this case the definition of my mission was significant to my personality and achievement of goals. Therefore my mission statement was to get the first sports and management degree that was to facilitate my enrolment to the army from where I was to learn ethical skills and behaviors, attain experience that was to helped me cope will life challenges while pursuing my career and finally be get knowledge and expertise that was to help me become a reliable member in my family and in society. This mission was in line with what Gower, (2008) reinstated that people fail to understand that the world has become more dynamic in a way that lack of focus and sufficient skills cannot help anyone attain their visions. Besides, my visions in this mission were to become a skilled football training coach who imparts the whole person for the trainees. The last one was to become an all round coach who not only focuses on football but also on social and spiritual life of human beings in the society, this compelled me to undergo various stages to become the person I have desired as depicted in below ethical training and service.
First, I was born and raised in West Palm Beach Florida and attended Church of The Living God throughout my adolescent years. I joined the Army in 1990 as a Military Policeman and re-entered the Army in 2008 as a Logistic NCO. I have been in the ministry since 1998. I started out as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. I was over the teen class at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham Alabama; under the leadership of Pastor Joseph Battle. While serving as an Ordained Deacon I was elected to be the Superintendent of the Sunday school. God used me to create the first ever written bylaws of the Sunday school at St. Paul. During my time as the Superintendent God called me to the ministry 2002. I informed my Pastor and thereafter I went into training. I preached my first official sermon on 23 February 2003 titled “Last Place is First Place”.Training:
My training had actually started as a Deacon and the transition from a Deacon to a Minister was merely a changing of titles for at St. Paul you are taught and it is required that you able to perform the duties of a Minister when one is not present. The Pastor trained me on proper etiquette for holding leadership/ lay member meetings, finance, welfare of the sick and shut in, conducting bible study, conducting Sunday School Teachers meetings, conducting Alter Call, Conducting Choir Rehearsal, Conducting Praise Dance Rehearsal, conducting Communion, conducting Baptism, conducting Funerals, conducting Weddings and Proper Maintenance of the Church (Janitorial, Building and Grounds). I was also taught how to truly serve instead of being served. In a roundabout way without knowing my Pastor was showing me how to be an Armor Bearer without the title of an Armor Bearer and the role of a Pastor. After years at St. Paul I was sent to a non-denominational church called The Refiners House; did not quite understanding why at that time but I followed the instructions given by the Holy Spirit and there I was hand selected by the Pastor and his 1st Armor Bearer to be his 2nd Armor Bearer and my training continued; during this time I was also in the Pastor’s leadership group. I was also trained on the how to run an Army Chapel Service at AMR Chapel in Hawaii. I was the Chaplin’s chief 2nd until I emergency permeant change of station.
I was ordained under Straightway Church of Christ Written In Heaven in Belle Glade Florida and returned to AMR Chapel entrusted with the duties as a Chaplin when the Chaplin was out. My training continues with the L...
