The first structural difficulty grassroots organizations may have when applying for funding is the absence of applicable information requested by the funding source that needs to be included in an abstract or executive summary. For example, foundation program officers review an organization's abstract before presenting it to the grant approving body to ensure it corresponds with a funder's mission (Karsh & Fox, 2009, p. 231). Grassroots organizations, due to their neophyte nature, may not exist at all and are depending upon prospective grant funds to begin providing services to a target population, which does not facilitate great confidence in awarding an up and coming program that does not have a record of accomplishment. An organization's record of accomplishment establishes some credibility, proving agency and program sustainment and maintenance has been achieved, and that is something funding sources like to see.  With a ‘track record', funding sources will more than likely not approve funding. However, to address this issue, grassroots organization can collaborate with other existing community agencies that have been operational in the past and include them in their abstract for more credibility. Or, if the company has a board of directors with prior successful non-profit organizations, the grant writer can include it in the abstract so foundation program officers can see it as a new and promising program that is led by experienced individuals.
The second structural difficulty pertains again to information included in the executive summary, which are anecdotal statistics and research results. Grant proposals address a need and funding sources want to know how their money will efficiently and effectively mitigate or eliminate a communal need. If an upcoming grassroots movement is nonexistent, how will it plead its case so it can increase its approval probability? Using secondary research methods can overcome this obstacle by showing how similar procedures and methods in other U.S. non-profit organization programs in different geographical locations have had success addressing the same problems your new agency plans on tackling. This shows an organization is serious about its commitment on addressing the need and displays how it will address community needs based on existing research.  Lastly, grassroots organization lack revenue. The lack of revenue is linked to their specified titled nature and subsequently, their lack of ‘track record'.  Individual sponsors can overcome this structural flaw through fundraising events that new non-profit organizations have conducted in hopes to start one's business without grant funding. This can show initiative, determination, and build confidence in those awarding grant funding.

One of the main reasons why grassroots organizations will have difficulty obtaining funding is that they are unorganized and rarely ever have elected members or heads of the organization.  It shows that they are not organized and messy and that they may not be able to have sus...
