Individual Education Program (IEP) is a printed article mandatory for each child who is eligible to receive special learning services; this mostly deals with children with special needs. IEPs are deemed as a focus of the special education process and, therefore, crucial to comprehend for obtaining a clear view of special education as a whole.
More often children with disability are usually sidelined from our world and regarded as unfit overlooking the fact that they are humans too and need more attention in order to fit in. When a child has a disability, the rate of performance in academic or physical is a bit slower than that of a typical child due to stigmatization, and this tends to affect them psychologically. That is why IEP has been developed because there is a great need for Special Education Teachers; to help in the academic growth and functional performance of children with disability.
In this case study we are going to concentrate on Student M. W2ho according to evaluation for cognitive ability, scores fall in the average range but in Thinking ability and Cognitive efficiency cluster, she fell in the low to very low range. When given the Vineland, M scores fell within the small range, behaviors that were rated as "at risk" was attention problems.After noticing Student M’s problem, a meeting was held by all concerned parties; the parents, the class teacher and the school psychologist, here the collated information was presented to all thus the need for priority learning for Student M discussed.
In this meeting, it is agreed upon that the parents of Student M will be informed of student's progress every six weeks which is mandatory in keeping up with her education improvement. Student's progress towards meeting annual goals will be measured by the following; class work, work samples, quizzes, tests, progress reports and report card grades.The team further considered regular education, supportive instruction and co – teaching. Due to her behavior issues and learning difficulties. Student M will be served in Co – education for Maths, Science and Social Studies, in which she will benefit from the small group setting allowing her to target instruction in her deficit skills areas of Maths, Science, and Social Studies. Student M will be served resource classroom instruction for Language Arts for her difficulty in reading and writing.
The small group, extended time and Oral reading of tests question by the reader or assistive technology, will definitely aid in improving academic performance and skills of Student M. The Student will participate in all required assessments WITH accommodations.The projected date for the beginning of services and modifications and that anticipated frequency, location and duration of special education and related services and supplementary aids and services and modifications and supports is as illustrated below;
