Utilitarian Theory
Utilitarianism is one of the paramount known and most persuasive ethical theories. It is no different from other forms of consequentialism in that when defining an idea to be right or wrong it depends wholly on the effects or the consequences of the decision. In particular, the effects that matter most are the good and bad outcomes produced by the choice.
The main contributors to this theory are Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill. These two utilitarian’s were not only theorists but also very classical reformers. Their theory had a lot of influence in the philosophical work as well as an approach to the commercial, political, and social work. Though there have been several critics of utilitarianism, it has achieved the support of many 21st century thinkers (Dion, 2012).
