Statue of David
David’s statue is among the oldest and magnificent sculptures in Italy. It is a meticulously carved sculpture created in the early 15th century. It has a height of approximately 15 feet above the ground (Borri, Andrea, and Grazini 273). David's statue has a varied meaning. For instance, it was a symbol of strength and anger. Also, it has a political inclination toward the ruling dynasty of Medici.
David's statue represented Courage and heroic aspects of the Florencians (Borri, Andrea, and Grazini 275). It demonstrated that physical strength was not comparable to spiritual power. In addition, it stood as a symbol of a political warning against dictatorship in Florence. This statue was among the first nude statue to be erected publicly in Italy.
The statue is hugely buff. This aspect was highly revered in the 15th century, especially by Greek and Romans (Shaikh, Saad, and Leonard 75). The male body is well illustrated. David is slightly bent on one leg; it demonstrates a natural counterbalance through a slanting hip in one direction and the leg in the other. This well-built body represents an ideal form of the present culture as many young people would envy his muscular body. Therefore, David represents a male role model to the youths.
