Morals are unique traits which every man possess, however, how they choose to act upon it develops eventually becoming part of their character. “Julius Caesar” the Dramatic play put across the inflicted idea of moralities by falsifying the historical notion of political context Shakespeare’s. Shakespeare focuses on a number of a number of themes such as goodwill versus hatred and also free will versus fortune approach. Similarly, “The Prince” incorporate historical events to depict the concepts that are essential to running an ideal kingdom. Both texts use historical references to compare traits depicted in righteous characters.
Shakespeare endeavors to convey his dilemma to the audience regarding the ruling government and the play is implemented by use of the four characters: Antony, Brutus, Julius Caesar and Cassius who are portrayed to have differing standards of morals and good will against hatred. In the entire play, there is portray of a power struggle between the good and evil thus conveying the ideas of morality and more significantly persuasion. At the time of the funeral speech, it is evident how Antony has the traits to seduce the fickle plebs in seeing the horror and mutiny behind the act of Brutus to murder Caesar. The repetition that is made in the play “Brutus as an honorable man” is intended to manipulate the situation correlating to Shakespeare striving to seduce his audience in to make a decision to choose a side within the play and their problems with the Queen. Base on the play it is clear that Shakespeare intends to beguile the crowd into realizing the challenges that confront the infamous Queen Elizabeth and also it could dramatically predispose England into turmoil if she happens to die without having an heir.
On the other hand is ”The Prince” produced by Niccolo Machiavelli in 1509. The prevailing situation at the time of composition of The Prince was that Italy was in a state of instability because the Italian leaders were being assassinated and immediately replaced comparable to the concept that was addressed by Shakespeare in his play. Niccolo was a political associate who had a strong affiliation with the previous governor of Italy. However, the strong relationship broke out after a new governor took the reign and decided to drive out Machiavelli. The Prince is a guideline that has been prepared by Machiavelli to disregard morals if one has to become an ideal ruler. According to Machiavelli if a leader has the power to win the goodwill of the people, then the leader should not have the reason to worry about hatred and treacheries. Goodwill is depicted to be an ideal political instrument which can ensure the stability of the reign of a leader. This message is conveyed by the use of metaphor “Better to have a name for miserliness, which breeds disgrace without hatred, instead, in pursuing a name for liberty.” The perception of breeding disgrace correlates with the idea of Machiavelli that hatred will produce evolution to adulation and attempt to not dissatisfy the ruler as the goodwill with present a compassionate effect.
The treatment of morality has plenty of effects which can significantly impact a society depending on how people will use it. This concept is studied in both Julius Caesar and “The Prince” however, they both have antagonistic interpretations regarding the idea of freewill against fortune. Based on the play of Shakespeare, it is evident that the latter supported fate when he asserted that fate cannot be delimited but rather a mystery which is part of life to everyone.
